I am a 40 something year old mother of 2. I have always been interested in crafts since my sister and I spent summer weeks with my Grandmother, who was a very crafty lady, while my mother was in college. I mostly quilt since I seem to have an obsession with owning large quantities of fabric, but at one point or another think I have tried almost every craft out there.

i want to give something away too

I stopped at the grocery store on my way home today and as I was walking in carrying my reusable grocery bags I noticed a sign on the door saying "Did you remember your recyclable bags?" As I was walking out another shopper leaving congratulated me for remembering my bags. It is becoming so much more chic to be green and it gladdens my heart. As I was trying to think of what to make for my PIF gifts I wanted to do something that was environmentally friendly. While I was sewing I thought it would be fun to do additional giveaways for people who didn't sign up for my pay it forward and spread useful earth saving items. I have a number of ideas for "green" products that I will give away periodically.
I have a knit dishcloth, cotton dishtowel and some cloth napkins for this time around. Leave a comment and I will draw a random name after I return from my business trip next week. Feel free to share a "green" idea of your own and please pass along word of my giveaway so everyone can play.

What a lovely color combination. My green thing is to hang my clothes outside as much as I can. I live for the most part pretty green before it became popular to do so. I don't know about reuseable grocery bags though because I think of the hygiene involved. I don't know where others keep their bags and I don't know what is gettin left behind on the counters. This really bothers me.

I have had a few people thank me for reminding them to go get their bags in the parking lots of grocery stores
I have been bringing my own bags to the grocery store for years now...
I love the idea of using cloth napkins though.
May have to try and make a few for us.
I have been thinking about knitting a few dishclothes too.
Would love to try one though first to make sure they really do the job before I go buy the cotton yarn and make a few.

Oh my green thing to be... Cloth diapers & cloth wipes.

(I have been doing the napkins thing & the grocery bag thing for quite a while. I also reuse the plastic &/or paper bags that you get at the grocery store.)

I hang laundry outside all summer and my cloth grocery bags usually live in the car. I need some more of those knitted dishcloths.

I am trying hard to be "greener" these days. My daily newspaper comes in a plastic bag, I used to toss them but now I use them for doggie poop bags, instead of buying bags for that purpose. I would lov eto win your green prizes.

What a great idea. I've been thinking about making some dishcloths for myself and gifts (wonder what the relatives will think of that *s*)

Your bag and dishcloth look very pretty!
Some of the things I've been doing to be more green: combining my errands into one trip in the car, recycling everything I can (my town now recycles junk mail and magazines, hurray!) and I've changed to a few CF lightbulbs. I'm trying hard to remember to bring my bags to the supermarket and I'm donating used items to the local thrift store rather than throwing them away.

We just got back from Canada and most people up there have their own bags for when they get groceries. I felt bad since we had to use plastic! Please sign me up for your give away. Pop over to my blog and sign up for my give-away! I will be drawing on the 3rd of Sept. so you still have time. :D

We are big on bags! In Europe nothing annoys me more than paying 50 cents to one dollar for each plastic bag at the grocery store because I forgot my bag (they charge for the bags over there!!!!). In my house we use cloth hankerchiefs. With my son's allergies the paper tissues end up rubbing his nose raw.
Cheers!

It's been several months now and I'm loving using the 'Faux Paper Towels' that I made... here is a link to my post on making them.

http://howdyblogs.blogspot.com/2008/04/little-more-green-faux-paper-towels.html

We keep them in a stack on the kitchen counter and use them to dry hands or wipe off the counter... all the things I use to use paper for...

Just a hint in making them... use a light print - heavy, dark prints especially in less expensive fabrics have too much ink on them and they aren't very absorbent.
