pincushion

Everyone has been showing off their pincushions. I have many, but this is what I use by my machine. This is actually a cup holder with scrap catcher sold by Creative Memories for scrapbooking. A good friend of mine gave this to me and I just love it. I made the bag with some fabric to coordinate with my room. I used some Heat and Bond vinyl fused to the lining to make the trash slide out easier. The pincushion is 2 boiled wool ones stacked on top of each other to get it above the cup holder. Very handy.

What do you think? Does this assortment look like fall leaves? I'm going to do Judy's October hour a day quilt. Because of the move I didn't get time to do the last one. Maybe I'll start early. :o)

round five

I have been a bad, bad blogger. I haven't had time to either quilt or blog. I so want to start Judy's next hour a day quilt, but it's just not working out. I have been thinking about it. :c)

This is all I have finished in a long, long time. This is my Round 5 in my group's round robin. This months border was curves. I had a really hard time. It belongs to a good friend and I couldn't envision anything for a border with curves that I thought would compliment it. I decided that instead I would embellish the triangle border with curves. I drew up the holly vines from the print on the black fabric in the outer border. I should have taken a better picture of that fabric before I passed it along. It was due last night and I finished the handwork at about 12:30 am. Nothing like cutting it close. It is now in the hands of the next person and I have my last one to get started on. It's made from Aunt Gracie's and we are doing applique. I have so many ideas for this one that I'm not sure which one I am going to do.

you don't have to ask me twice

Some of you asked me to see more pictures of my sewing room. I didn't want to bore you, but..... since you asked. :oD
Here is my sewing table. I had DH leave 3 inches behind the table so when I am sewing large things they can drop down behind the table. There is a light on the bottom of the upper cabinet. This isn't quite finished yet. DH still has to make a surface that will go all around my sew steady table to extend my sewing space.
Here is my cutting table. It is just a banquet table on bed risers to make it a better height for cutting. I had a large walk in closet for storage in my old house and I had to buy this shelving unit to hold some of my stuff that doesn't fit in the cabinet. My UFO's are in one of the large totes on the top and the other is holding my wools for applique. You can see some of my teddies on the top of the cabinet. You will find at least one teddy bear in each room of my house. :cD
These are storage units that I bought quite a while ago while I was waiting for my cabinet to be finished. They haven't been sorted through yet. They are filled with whatever got thrown in for the move. I am in the process of folding my fat quarters and my half yard cuts to put in some of the drawers. The opening was there in the wall and they fit perfectly. DH can't stand things looking unfinished so he says he is going to frame out the opening.
Here is my ironing board, again made by my husband. He is a pretty handy guy to have around. He ran the extension cord up the wall and across a beam for me so I can have it handy to the iron. The plastic storage on the left holds my embroidery threads. The other totes hold fabric (imagine that), stabilizer, trims, and towels and sweatshirts to embroider. I love having the nails so I can hang things up and out of the way. You can see my shaker step stool on the far right that I use to get in the upper cupboards of my cabinet. On top of those boxes that still need to be dealt with is the flannel I am going to use for my design wall that is going there on the blank wall beside the board.
Last one I promise. DH wanted me to show a front view of the cabinet. After all the work he did making it for me and helping me get my room set up I thought he deserved it.

what a difference a weekend at home makes!

No trip to DS's school this weekend! :o)
Other than trips to buy supplies we stayed home and worked all 3 days. There are still a few boxes in each room and although we are far from finished we have made some serious progress.
Here is a picture of my sewing room. This is where we made the most headway. DH put nails in the beams for me so I could hang baskets and such. He also had the great idea of running an extension cord up the wall and over the beam to hang down right over my iron. It's going to be great to have it right there. I have refolded all of my fabrics the way suggested in the book Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space: and organized them by color. I have found that with the new folding method I would even have room for more fabric. :cD I'm going to try and refrain after falling off the August no-buy wagon. I bought a few yards at Marden's on the way back from taking DS back to college. I told DH we should stop and check out Marden's since we hadn't been in a while. I did truly forget. They had some repro's that I really liked so I just picked them up and didn't even remember I wasn't going to buy anything until we were about half way home. Oh well, I didn't buy much. I just missed out on my gold star.
